Cobourg, Ontario, the son of a laborer. He went to France with the 69th (which became the 168th Infantry) as its chaplain and later was commissioned a Major. For bravery under fire Father Duffy received the Distinguished Service Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Croix de Guerre with Palm; he was made a member of the Legion of Honor, cited for valor.
