Marcel Breuer, 79, Hungarian-born designer and architect whose sculptural use of steel and concrete helped shape the furniture and buildings of the 20th century; of heart disease; in New York City. Working with Walter Gropius at Germany's famous Bauhaus during the 1920s, Breuer was inspired by the curve of bicycle handles to design his celebrated tubular steel and leather Wassily chair (named for Painter Wassily Kandinsky, one of its first purchasers).
