...admit I have my own tuxedo, but--I must confess--I didn't buy it in anticipation of the 350th ball. Unfortunately, the event's planners, whoever they are (I sure didn't get a chance to vote for them), failed to foresee that many Harvard undergrads don't have formal wear just waiting in the closet for a night on the town...

...freshman and sophomores who inevitably will be left out, it is not so much their fault as an accident of history--it is this year and not the next which is the 350th year of Harvard. Attending a four-year institution necessarily means that some at the school--the upperclassmen--will be more a part of that school than those new to it.
