Coming on the eve of Prime Minister Harold Wilson's 60th birthday, the victory at Coventry was icing on his cake. Just a few weeks ago, he was facing incipient revolt from his party's left wing. The White Paper had warned that unchecked public spending would soon gobble up half of an average wage earner's salary in taxes. But to the left, the report's recipe for reducing spending sounded more like a Tory tract than a Labor manifesto. More and more serious campers fanned out through Canada's well-named Wood Buffalo National Park, which sprawls over 17,300 square miles and is reputedly the world's biggest national park. After 80 minutes of diving through the bay like a clumsy dolphin, Jack landed at the Wharf, blue with cold. Rushed to a nearby sauna for defrosting, he emerged to the cheers of fans and promptly fell to the ground, only to do ten brisk pushups. Then...
...that leftover campaign funds had been used by President Nixon's good friend C.G. ("Bebe") Rebozo to pay for various major improvements to the Nixon properties at Key Biscayne and for a pair of platinum-set diamond earrings that the President gave to Pat in 1972 for her 60th birthday...
