...dance floor are quite another scene. Tufts students and a few locals relax at some of the readily available tables in the front room; those who wish to see and be seen make their way through the line to the back room, where backwards white baseball caps abound. The young clientele and pushy mob around the bar may remind some upperclassmen of nights at the late Crimson Sports Grille, particularly as Tufts girls dressed to the nines sashay around Tufts guys pretending not to notice...

These panic attacks lead me to frantic research. I quickly became aware of a community of aviophobes on the internet. Airline safety junkies abound on the web, debating the advantages of different types of airplanes, rating their safety and giving far too much information for the amateur paranoiac. For example, there are websites out there that track the number of fatal accidents for each airline and the dates these accidents occurred. Some a little farther off the deep end spend their time uncovering conspiracies between government agencies and airlines to trade money for safety. But many with my affliction count...

...other hand, is clearly a war zone. Reaching the city after a trip over the mountains, we went through numerous strict security checks; 50 miles from the city, I saw warplanes and Apache attack helicopters in the air. There is a curfew in town, and tales of kidnappings abound. The capital's new rulers--the Panjshiri Northern Alliance--are determined to edge the Pashtun out of government. But the tension is high because the east is the Pashtun heartland. The ethnic card is being played on both sides of the country...

...oppositions abound. Fred was grace, Gene was energy. Fred was poise, Gene was power. Fred was ethereal, Gene was earthy. Fred was the Continental (he danced it too); Gene was all-American. Fred was top hat, white tie and tails, Gene was a baseball cap, T-shirt and jeans. (Can you imagine Astaire in a baseball cap? Can you imagine Kelly without one?) Fred would just materialize, a slim apparition who hardly noticed the impact he made; his attitude said, in a sidelong glance and sidewise murmur, "Ooh, is someone out there?" Gene came barreling toward you, arms outstretched...
