...this same process of reasoning, all countries save England and the United States have adopted "that at absurd system of grams and meters". Even in our own territory of the Philippines the metric system has been prescribed by law and is used in all commerce and business. From the point of view of the outsider, only the two most conservative nations of the world still measure distances in terms of miles and feet and inches, and liquids in terms of pints and quarts and gallons--no one of which measurements bear any decimal relation to another. ...expect revolutionary changes of the Debating Union is of course absurd. It is handicapped by the lack of tradition and precedent which has more than once proved fatal to undergraduate innovations. But its foundation gains strength from the formation of two opposing wings entirely outside of American political party affiliations. She cannot object because the League is linked up with the Treaty of Versailles because Article XIX provides for the alteration of existing...
Manifestly it is unfair and absurd to complain because one or two unusual plans of study fail of realization through the inevitable changes in the courses given but such cases are not exceptional by any means. It should be possible to announce a year or so in advance those definitely to be omitted, and the custom now occasionally followed of announcing courses as given in alternate years could be made a fixed rule. Such procedure might add to the burden, already heavy, of the compilers of information, but the assistance it would contribute would be almost invaluable particularly in these...
