...indication of how far Asian Americans have come in politics that John Lim, who is running for U.S. Senator in Oregon, thinks his thick Korean accent is actually an asset with voters. "They love it," he says. "They know I speak with a sincerity about who I am." Lim, 62, immigrated to the U.S. in 1966 and worked odd jobs--janitor, gardener, house painter--before entering the real estate business. In 1990, as a political neophyte, Lim finished second in the Republican gubernatorial primary. Two years later, he won a seat in the state senate. Now Lim has spun...
...striking solo performance in "My Mother's Luck." Despite her unusually lengthy speech, Mackay captures the audience's attention and leaves one wishing her character appeared more frequently throughout the performance. She sits comfortably in her rocking chair with Hannah rubbing her sore feet, speaking in a thick German accent of how she felt "like a sack of potatoes" next to her husband's bob-haired, cigarette-smoking female friends of the 1920s...

Precisely because she isn't "dumbed-down" enough for the part, she achieves an entirely different element from the character: cold calculation. Her words are placed with precision, whether it is to tear down "the nigger" or the doctor...
...rest of the cast doesn't make up for Baldwin's shortcomings. Chris Penn portrays Baldwin's partner Duke Finnerty as a wasted Joe Pesci (annoying accent and all), and Gina Gershon as girlfriend Joey is one-dimensional at best. It just seems like nobody tried very hard to make this film. One Tough Cop might have passed as a mediocre episode of "NYPD Blue," but it ultimately fails as a feature film...
Yatsura's sound is guitar and drums and a light Scottish accent that can only help Fergus throw out his weighty iambs. The band has sprinkled a few samples and a lot of electronic effects through the album, but the music rests solidly on straight rocking instrumentation, beat and exciting lyrics...
