...personality is the master key to the success and fame of Corcoran & Cohen. Historic is the White House party at which Tommy the Cork, playing his accordion and singing his ballads, charmed the Great Charmer. His tenor voice is honey smooth. His quick mind and tongue have a tenoctave range, from airiest wit to profoundest judicial deliberation. He handles people as a virtuoso plays a violin. Beneath his silkiness lies a mental toughness, a counterpart of the muscular toughness that enabled him to build a cabin on Mt. Washington with his two hands, makes him a tireless mountain skier...
...slump during the first half of the year, the merchants predicted that the total volume of business in 1938 would equal that of the banner year 1937, when $200,000,000 was spent in the U. S. for instruments, instruction and upkeep. Most popular instrument as last year: the accordion. The coaches lay crumpled for hours in a river bed till cranes could be got into the mountains. Most of the injured were expected to die. It was the deadliest train wreck in West Indies' history...

These objects, which sometimes suggested the scraps left in cabinetmakers' shops, and sometimes the more outlandish contraptions of Rube Goldberg, represented part of the first year's work of the 70 students of the New Bauhaus...
Even today few piano accordion squeezers rank as virtuosos. But this week, after an accordion recital in Philadelphia's staid Academy of Music, Philadelphia critics admitted that their townsman, dark, 30-year-old Andy Arcari, could claim the title. Accordionist Arcari, who had given previous recitals in Pittsburgh and Toledo, played a program ranging from Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue to Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen. Said Critic Henry Pleasants: "Here was a brilliance in scale and arpeggio passages that many a violinist or pianist could envy." Virtuoso Arcari, who makes most of his living teaching and playing...
