But this pulpy family psychodrama is hugely entertaining - like watching some filmed version of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test from an adapted screenplay by Mario Puzo and directed by Yasujiro Ozu. And it's not just grotesque fantasy. Now You're One of Us, which was originally published in 1993, as divorce rates in Japan were soaring, is also high-wire social commentary.
