...throngs of young people. Often they do it by breaking genre boundaries, mixing in elements of rock concerts or performance art. Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a hot ticket for months, is the life story of a transsexual rock star, told in the form of an autobiographical nightclub act. De La Guarda's circus-like theater piece, Villa Villa, features performers who swoop and soar on cables above the audience (which stands during the entire 60-min. spectacle). "These shows are reinventing theatrical language," says David Binder, a De La Guarda co-producer, "for an audience that thought the theater...

...Jack Kevorkian's televised killing of Thomas Youk, 52, on 60 Minutes last week had the familiar dramatic arc of an infomercial. Act I presents the vexing problem--baldness, cellulite or, in this case, Youk's advanced-stage Lou Gehrig's disease. After he and his entourage reportedly trashed their rooms last week at the Sheraton in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., one of the hotel manager's chief gripes was that Manson had stained the bathroom sinks with hair dye. That's the sort of complaint that would embarrass New Kids on the Block, let alone a rocker like Marilyn. And what of a claim a few days later that Manson ordered his bodyguards to beat up Spin magazine editor Craig Marks? Seems the same move...
