...movies that, however noble in intent, arrived in theaters as a waste of time and money. The awards program matches the Oscars calendar step for step. Early on Jan. 21, precisely 24 hours before the official Academy Awards nominations, the Razzies will unveil their nominees for Worst Picture, Worst Actor and Worst Actress, as well as finalists in other unconventional categories including Worst Screen Couple and Worst Prequel or Sequel. (See this year's Razzie nominees.) On Feb. 21, the day before the Oscars ceremony, the Razzies will be announced at a special dinner in Hollywood...
...about a scrappy, overachieving journalist who was given three days to put together a cover story about George Clooney - a man who had been covered in every way, from every possible angle. Every idea that the journalist came up with - like a poker game with Clooney's friends - the actor shot down. So this journalist took a risk that no other celebrity profiler had ever taken: he invited Clooney over to his house for dinner. And the journalist cooked and cooked, and maybe the rack of lamb he undercooked, but he got that cover story. Big days, I told Faulk...
...about physics: the pretzeling and punishment a body can take. James' pratfalls don't give the impression of hurting because he has such a capacious cushion to fall on. His grace in motion isn't exceptional, but he could medal in Segway. There's a perfect meeting of actor and character in one little scene when Paul discovers Amy and the other hostages in a small bank: instead of busting in like an action hero, he just naturally traverses the winding maze of a roped waiting area...

Instead of being innocent, he just seems slow. (On the flight to China, an Indian man seated behind Sidhu asks him, in English, "Are you stupid?") Comedy is the most local of movie genres, difficult to translate from one culture...
...composer (A.R. Rahman). Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona was named best comedy, ahead of Happy-Go-Lucky and Mamma Mia! WALL-E won for animated feature, while the animated feature Waltz With Bashir was the best foreign language film. (Can't explain; too complicated.) The award for best actor in a drama went to Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler. Kate Winslet snagged both the dramatic actress prize for Revolutionary Road and the supporting actress trophy for The Reader. Ireland's Colin Farrell (In Bruges) and England's Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky) received the top prizes for acting...
