Elliott Roosevelt and his wife, Actress Faye Emerson, were again determined to "make Christians out of Christmas tree dealers." Last year they undercut upstate New York dealers by selling 20,000 trees from their Val-Kill farm at $1 each. ...routine comic framework, Robert Montgomery and Bette Davis have a moderately intelligent script in "June Bride," and that's all they need. Montgomery is an accomplished wisecracker, and on occasion he can make even a standard line something to be remembered. (Both Miss Christians and Mr. Bourneuf, it might be noted, have volunteered their services at the same salary and billing as that of the permanent group, and exceedingly rare occurrence for stars of their standing.) It's been a long time since Miss Christians has been seen in a comedy but she has certainly not lost her touch. In a role that calls for a middle-aged siren, Miss Christians roars about the stage letting loose all that energy...

...Leonide Massinc, who could almost be called the Grand Old Man of the Dance, if he would allow the "Old." But he does not steal the show because new, red-headed Moira Shearer does. Looking as fetching as Becky Thatcher grown up, Miss Shearer is also a surprisingly capable actress in this, her first film. She plays the young ballerina and dances the lead in "The Red Shoes" ballet, based on the Hans Anderson tale, and carries off both with more talent and wile than has been seen in a long while...
