...music who has scant interest in more mundane subjects like politics. He reads newspapers "as little as possible," he says, and "I don't pay much attention to television." So no one was more surprised than Morris at the furor that ensued in March 1982 after British Actress Vanessa Redgrave was hired to narrate the B.S.O.'s planned production of the opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex. Fletcher's co-star is obviously a seasoned pro; indeed, C.J. the orangutan, 13, has charmed moviegoers as the swinging simian in Clint Eastwood's Any Which Way You Can (1980), and starred last year in the short-lived Mr. Smith television series. He and the huggable Fletcher met on the set of My Secret Friend, a TV movie to be aired on CBS this winter...

...1930s, '40s and '50s, then largely abandoned for social relevance and downbeat realism in the '60s and '70s. "I think the public has been starved for glamour for a long time," says Joan Collins, 51, who was a well-traveled but undistinguished movie actress before achieving superstardom on Dynasty (and posing in the nude for Playboy last year). "I grew up watching beautiful actresses like Ava Gardner, Hedy Lamarr and Elizabeth Taylor. Getting away from one's mundane existence into a fantasy world of beautiful clothes, jewels and Rolls-Royces is very appealing...
