Unlike the Ad Board, the CRR honors basic ideals of American justice--at least in theory. If theory diverges from actual practice, those who support a student boycott of the CRR must accept part of the blame. The majority's objection to student participation on the CRR oddly contradicts its frequent and well-founded arguments for student involvement in Harvard' administrative affairs. The majority argues without basis that students will be worse judges of their colleagues than either professors or administrators...

...bright side of this phenomenon is that these Wanna Be's (as in "We wanna be like Madonna!") could be out somewhere stealing hubcaps. Instead, all of them, hundreds of thousands of young blossoms whose actual ages run from a low of about eight to a high of perhaps 25, are saving up their baby- sitting money to buy cross-shaped earrings and fluorescent rubber bracelets like Madonna's, white lace tights that they will cut off at the ankles and black tube skirts that, out of view of their parents, they will roll down several turns at the waist...

Even Nobel Laureate Hans Bethe, a vehement skeptic about SDI, has called X- ray lasers "the one and only proposal that makes any sense." He cautions, however, that the obstacles to developing an actual weapon are "fantastic," and repeated last week his view that SDI threatens "a big new escalation" in the arms race. Ideally, these issues would have been dealt with by the administration, the students and the committee well in advance of the actual protests. As it is now, the administration should be persuaded to wait until the fall before any action is taken. Since the proper mechanisms are not in place, they should not be thrown together hastily. The protesters have a right to expeditious treatment, but they have even more of a right to due process M. Timur Friedman

...LIKE THE ACTUAL conquest of the Sahara, The Conquest of the Sahara is a series of anecdotes tied around the theme of France and the desert. After reading about three or four expeditions, though, it gradually appears that they are all the same one. To wit: incompetent French officer A is appointed via government connections to lead expedition across the Sahara to Point B. He is given C Francs and D assistants, collects E colonial troops in French Algeria, and, most importantly, F camels. Along the journey treacherous native guides mislead the party, and contacts with the mysterious Tuareg people...
