Meredith's lawsuit seeks an end to the guidelines (and $25,000 in damages for her son, who was eventually admitted to the school that originally rejected him and is now a fourth-grader there). While dozens of civic organizations, the Louisville Chamber of Commerce and five former Secretaries of Education have sided with the school district, the Bush Administration has taken up Meredith's cause. The Solicitor General submitted a brief arguing that schools should not be in the business of racial balancing and that even Brown v. Board Ed. declared that public schools should ultimately admit students...

...Pollsters found that nearly 90% of African-Americans agreed with the verdict. Almost a third of whites did too. What better way to eliminate this lingering and widespread doubt about Simpson's guilt than to have the man himself admit it. But for that you need his confession. The fact that he prefaced his "I did it" with the word "if" is irrelevant. Simpson will always avoid unqualified admission if only to avoid further legal jeopardy for, say, perjury...

...that in his second semester,"I became totally insane. I was driven out to McLean's Mental Hospital, where I ran around naked, shouting and banging my head.In my delirium, I saw one face that I recognized. He was looking down at me with pity, worry, and let us admit it: love. We had not exchanged one word in two years, and here we ended up together on the same ward of the same mental hospital, both victims of American psychiatrists trying to cure us of the memory of having loved each other...
