...bald attempt to spin the situation last week, Toyota executive Hiroyuki Yokoyama said the brake problems came down to a matter of each and every driver's "feel," refusing to admit to any flaws in the cars themselves. Several hours later, after being loudly criticized by the Japanese press for dodging responsibility, Toyoda tried to undo the damage by offering his first personal apology over the recalls. He did not, however, offer any specific solutions. On Tuesday, Toyoda finally announced that the company determined the brakes of the Prius and other hybrid models are prone to malfunction for a split...

...Morel seems intent on creating an aura of mystery for himself. He refuses to answer questions in interviews about his motivations, and when the interviews are conducted in his native French, he does not allow his words to be subtitled for non-French speakers. Though I am loathe to admit it, Morel’s antics intrigue me. However, the shift to online forms of charity will lead not only to more aid dollars but also to fundamental changes to how the aid is administered...

Though referees make most calls correctly, there are still many calls that have influenced post-season games that officials later admit were wrong. During the playoffs in 2006, did Troy Polamalu intercept Peyton Manning? Even with instant replays, the referees still got it wrong, as official Peter Morelli later admitted, though the ruling ultimately decided the outcome of that game. Also, many Seahawks fans can attest to there being inconsistent officiating even in the biggest of games, as Superbowl XL demonstrates. Granted, a full-time referee will also make bad calls from time to time...
