Although her dark blue Eastern Airlines uniform skirt reached down to the top of her knee, and she was loaded with make-up, the stewardess on the way down to New York was exceptionally good for conversation. She argued with the middle-aged male adult in front of me about the virtues of marijuana and sighed knowingly when he said he was a buyer for a large hardware store chain for a living. She had seen The Graduate, and liked it yes, but had not mistaken Dustin Hoffman's naturally pinched voice with a well-developed acting technique...

Among 197 inmates at Carstairs State Hospital, they found no fewer than seven XYY men, or 3.5% (as well as one XXYY). This, they estimated, was 50 to 60 times the normal incidence. To check this estimate, the Edinburgh investigators examined 266 newborn boys and 209 adult men without finding a single XYY. In a random collection of 1,500 karyotypes, they found only...

...Beyond Adult Scope. In 1965, a 16-year-old boy bought a few girlie magazines from Sam Ginsberg at his Bellmore, L.I., stationery store and luncheonette. Ginsberg was tried and convicted under New York's new juvenile obscenity law; he appealed. Only the children tie the couples to what used to be called adult responsibilities, and even they are occasionally trundled about from bed to bed to make room for their elders. "All these goings-on would be purely lyrical, like nymphs and satyrs in a grove," said Updike recently, "except for the group of distressed and neglected children...

More Americans than ever are turning on with marijuana. Most of them are under 21, but an astonishing number of respectable adult citizens are also using "sticks" or "joints" or "grass." Obviously no one knows the total, since possession of a single cigarette is a crime. But Commissioner James L. Goddard of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cites estimates that as many as 20 million Americans may have used marijuana at one time, while 400,000 some say as many as 3,000,000-may now be smoking it regularly...
