...here's the thing--Pinsky does have something to say. Something to say about America, and he says it well. His 1979 collection, "An Explanation of America," is, believe it or not, actually moving. There is a ton in the book. It's a long-weekend affair; the book needs time to sit for a while. Pinsky divides the book into three parts, each part an aspect of the American experience: "Its Many Fragments," "Its Great Emptiness," "Its Everlasting Possibility."
