...subplot that keeps viewers returning, however, is Lonelyboy43's fraught friendship with "Condi," his female best friend who organizes the show's technical setup (currently a poorly shot, jerry-rigged affair, as the show has a reported yearly budget deficit of $296 billion). The two are inseparable, and Lonelyboy43 seems to speak more highly of Condi than of his significant other, the bookish, rarely-glimpsed "Laura," yet he seems paralyzed and unable to, as one fan exhorts, "make a move already, willya?" Several websites have sprung up solely to dissect Lonelyboy43 and Condi's relationship, with online polls indicating that...
...denied involvement with the airline bombing. After his escape from the Venezuelan prison in 1985, he went to El Salvador, where he reunited with the CIA. He went to work assisting Oliver North in providing the Nicaraguan Contras with weapons and supplies. After his involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair, Posada worked as a spy for then Salvadoran President Jose Napoleon Duarte. ...Unfortunately, Hollywoodland is not really up to sophisticated social-psychological explorations of Reeves's situation at the time of his death. It wants to melodramatize it more than it wants to fully understand it. The jealous girlfriend business doesn't go anywhere beyond the conventional, but the affair with the married woman does have some traction, in that Toni Mannix - played with lusty high spirits by Diane Lane - was the wife of Eddie Mannix (Bob Hoskins), who was Louis B. Mayer's enforcer at M-G-M, the man who knew all the studio's secrets, scandalous and otherwise...
...However, Freston's firing, coming as the studio is still working to recover from the shockwaves Redstone created with his handling of the Cruise affair, will add grist to the mill. "It's sad," said one veteran Hollywood player, who requested anonymity because of his business relationships with several people close to the situation. "How could this do anything but add more uncertainty to the situation at Paramount...
