...time for the upcoming meeting of the Faculty Council’s Docket Committee, effectively blocking it from being addressed this year. Therefore, we call on Harvard College Dean Evelyn M. Hammonds to work to expedite the release of the report so it can be placed on the agenda for one of the two May faculty meetings. The Review Committee’s report promises to address critical issues that require faculty approval, such as guidelines for sanctions and the composition of the committee. Currently, the Ad Board seems to have a limited menu of punishment options. Offenses as varied...

...link Morales didn't make Thursday was to the U.S., which he has long insisted is out to destabilize his government because of his left-wing, anti-Washington agenda (including his nationalization of Bolivia's vast natural gas reserves) as well as his alliance with fellow Latin radicals like Chavez and Cuban President Raul Castro. Last year, in fact, Morales expelled the U.S. ambassador after accusing him of supporting his right-wing foes in Santa Cruz. Obama, as Bosworth intimated, has to let a decent interval pass after the U.N. reprimand lest he appear to be caving in to pressure from Pyongyang. He can't dawdle, though. North Korea continues to be a serial proliferator of missile and nuclear technology. More sanctions, the diplomatic crowd argues, aren't obtainable, as the recent U.N. exercise showed, and in any event they don't work against a regime that seems to enjoy pain. The only way to get a grip on the danger the North poses...

These attempts to redirect men’s energies from eating meat to viewing it are unacceptable. The agendas of animal and female empowerment need not clash. If anything, exposing the objectification of animals is a powerful vehicle for illuminating the objectification of women. Rather than viewing the two causes as a trade-off, vegan activists, in betraying the hegemonic process whereby animals are removed from the idea of meat, should underscore the similar process whereby females are packaged as objects for the male gaze. Without the allure of attractive, naked female bodies, such a project may garner less shock...
