...While reading the article "Questions of Validity Surround Teacher Tests" (Feb. 24), I was reminded of a similar issue that arose in my home state of Florida about 10 years ago. All college sophomores were required to take and pass the CLAST test in order to continue on to the college of their chosen major. The test was supposed to be at about a 10th grade level. I honestly feel it was much easier than that, and I went to a mediocre public high school and was a B student in college...

...ANYONE MISPLACED A Halloween mask with a pump that sprays red "blood?" A few months ago, it turned up in dorm crew's Weld basement office, a Yard-wide depot for items lost and found. After it spent a month unclaimed, though, dorm crew threw it out. This lost and found only keeps its loot for about a month before it's shipped off to the homeless. Apparently, the homeless didn't want the mask...

This reporter remembers a raucous University of Vermont crowd that swelled the Bright Center two years ago, and exhorted the 'Cats to victory with cries of "Go Cats Go!" Similarly, the Cornell crowd--and especially their band--usurped control of Bright when the Big Red visited Cambridge this year. You could say that hopes for Harvard school spirit weren't exactly...er, bright...
