...future of academics? Ah--let us see courses on Astrology, on Sooth-saying, and on Winning-at-Checkers. Let us follow in the footsteps of Master Vogt, abdicate from our quaint conceptions of intellectual obligation, and capitulate spinelessly to every rebellious whim of newly-pubescent adolescents who wish to pursue nonsense in the name of knowledge. Let us heed the words of Mr. Restic, who cautions us that "You won't begin to cover the multiflex in one semester," and so let us in all haste fire our existing faculty and offer tenure to the valiant young...

Last weekend at Carpenter Center the devil spit the universe out of his mouth and laughed. A sign of recognition went up from the audience: Ah, another origin-of-the-universe cartoon." It was an Italian movie, FantaBiblical, good news for post-Sputnik man, the fallen Catholic's Chariot of the Gods, the ten commandments as the fallout of a mid-space collision. When Teng put on a ten-gallon hat, the crowd howled with delight. He took off the hat and waved it cowboy-style over his head. Chick Corea (and RTF is Corea's band) always plays well; the success or failure of his records usually depends on the musicians he chooses and the selections he plays. The results here are uneven. Versions of flashy but vapid tunes from Musicmagic (1977) comprise the first two discs. The band is tight, but the intricate mini-fugues and pompous fanfares that highlight the horns still sound gratuitous. The vocal sections are disappointing; Chick...
