Tight student government is not, and has never been, the aim of the Student Council. It has maintained the loose form of non-powerful student organization unique to Harvard and its House system. Should the Student Council disband, the only voices for student opinion and student views at Harvard would be those of the CRIMSON and WHRB. As much as I respect several of my friends on the CRIMSON I do not think that an undemocratic, self-perpetuating, non-representative group of men would be able to speak authoritatively for the student body...
Mayor Wagner last May set the enactment of this bill as a chief aim of his administration; and it was steered through the City Council by Majority Leader Joseph T. Sharkey, Councilman Earl Brown, and Minority Leader Stanley Isaacs. As originally conceived, the bill would have made discrimination in rentals punishable by a fine of $500. This stronger version, however, was weakened in committee; and as finally passed the law provides for no punitive measures and includes a more elaborate procedure for pressing complaints than was originally desired by the bill's sponsors...

The husband and wife who belabor each other seem right off the burlesque stage, but the story's aim is to expose the canker that lies at the heart of comedy. Ohio-born James Purdy, 34, writes in a manner that is all his own, using a prose at once precise and clumsy, almost as if he had learned English well but late in life. People "grunt" out entire sentences, voices...
...similar to the ballet dancer's tour en I'air) to achieve Fenton's No. 1 fundamental: balance. "If a punter is balanced, he'll be accurate," says Father Fenton. Fenton strives for the accurate spiral that rolls for extra yardage, schools his punters to aim for coffin corner from as far out as 55 yds. A Fenton-trained kicker gauges the wind like an old salt, will boot low against it, high with it. The best ones can even tack the ball into a wind angling up the field to get a few added yards...
...films and coordinating agencies are not enough. These seem to aim at short-term panaceas to catch up with the Russians. James E. Allen Jr., New York State Commissioner of Education, said that although he was "definitely concerned about the Soviet threat," he was "disturbed as well by the emphasis in Washington on a crash program in science and mathematics." An overemphasis on science and mathematics can result in an exclusion of other necessary fields...
