They are not reverse discrimination, since they aim only at reversing discrimination--that is, making tenure committees and personnel offices search out applicant pools they previously ignored. No colleges have yet lost federal grants or contracts for failure to reach them. Harvard has traditionally refused to allow anyone to see the files without student authorization--though the student, of course has not been able to authorize his own inspection of them. But many universities and public schools regularly release such information.
