Usage:

The pace of the trip is leisurely, but Heat-Moon's exuberant erudition propels the reader with historical vignettes, ecological and geological detail, and often hilarious encounters with local eccentrics. The net effect is akin to Willard Scott channeling both Alexis de Tocqueville and John McPhee. The hearty, quote-laden banter between Heat-Moon and his mates sometimes sounds forced, but the author's wit and energy ultimately quell any cavils...

...barely apparent. Chiming guitars and a somber bass make for an elegiac sound on "Stanley Kubrick" and "Burn Girl Prom Queen," while a piano provides the melody for "Christmas Song." The band's primary strength is its sense of tension: they have an ability to balance melody with noise akin to the Velvet Underground. On this release, as on their last album (Come On Die Young) the element of noise has largely been moved to the background, though it shines through on the final song, "Small Children in the Background," where a plaintive guitar line trudges through squalls of feedback...

...Secondly, akin to the Disney industry, anime boosts its franchise through soundtrack releases. Amazingly, each show comes packaged with its own CD of best hits, or two or three or four. But none of those characteristic "toony" jingles. Composed mainly by Yoko Kanno, prominent composer in the soundtrack industry, it represents an eclectic mix of lyrical ballads, orchestral vignettes, with a funky Gregorian chant piece thrown in as well.
