...surprised that you included an article by Newt Gingrich in your cover package [March 1]. Isn't the idea of Gingrich giving advice on bipartisan cooperation akin to asking the fox for advice on how to guard the henhouse? He is the king of noncooperation and partisanship. There are people on both sides of the aisle who can offer advice about bipartisanship and have at least a modicum of credibility...

...exaggerating when I say Europe's obsession with restructuring its internal arrangements is akin to rearranging the deck chairs of a sinking Titanic. The focus on internal challenges when the real threats are external is the first of three strategic errors Europe is making. One does not have to be a geopolitical genius to figure out where Europe's main long-term challenges are coming from. The E.U. may be a comfortable oasis of peace now, free of the threat of wars between member states. But an aging Europe cannot ignore the rising population and Islamic anger in North Africa...

...previous round of government overspending. And across the country, the mood has started to sour: shops are closing and restaurants are half-empty. Many Greeks even say they'll cut back on going out to cafés - a pastime so central to the culture that it's akin to Americans saying they would give up television. More ominously, though it has yet to be directly linked to the financial crisis, a bomb exploded outside a JPMorgan Chase office in Athens on Tuesday night. No one was injured. (See "E.U. Comes to Greece's Rescue, with Strings...

...contestant for lacking “some sort of spark,” opining “you just gave up and thought that that was being dead,” and correcting all of us who had naively confused being dead with, well…being dead. Eerily akin to Warhol’s “Car Crash” series, these images conflate simulated death with sexiness and transform the morbid into an overt spectacle...
