...lucky that there was no United Nations organization in the days when the American colonies started to secede. If there had been such a thing, it very probably would have passed a resolution, by a majority of Japanese, Thailanders, Afghans, et al., that the revolution would be considered a threat to world peace. Troops of that U.N. would have been sent in to bring the naughty colonies back under the central government in London. One of the first things that U.N. would have done would have been to order the mercenaries, Von Steuben, Lafayette and others, back to Germany...

...Newport, R. I., Press Secretary Pierre Salinger announced a series of regional "seminars," to take place in 14 or 15 large cities during November. The seminarians will include Cabinet members and other Administration officials. Basically, the University's 1959 decision to withdraw from the NDEA program has proved only that this is no longer the dramatic era of the McCarthy inquisitions, and that all eyes are not focused on pompous old Harvard. True, Kennedy et al. went to Harvard, and all sorts of people, from a candy maker in Belmont to a small-time landlady in New Jersey, have exclaimed over that. As always, this was of special interest to the small countries that depend on the U.N. for a platform, for protection, and for the heady excitement of sharing in the management of the world. Their resolutions (such as the indignant motion of Yemen, the Sudan, et al. accusing Britain of armed aggression in the little desert sultanate of Oman four years ago) were all over the new agenda. In all, 90 items were on the list for full debate on the floor in the weeks ahead...

Reports from the coaches, always pessimistic at the beginning of the season, showed that Lehigh is "much better" than the 14-6 loss to Delaware indicated. Tovicain et. al. came back with special praise for Lehigh's highly touted pair of senior tackles--Captain Mike Semcheski, 215 pounds, and Reed Bohovich, 6' 4" 245-pound all-Middle Atlantic Conference performer last year. Semcheski is reputedly the best tackle in the MAC this year. Coach Bill Leckonby, father of Yale's quarterback, also impressed the Crimson staff with center-linebacker Charles Crase and fullback Boyd Taylor. Harvard is not taking...
