...Alamo. In case you missed it a few weeks ago, here's your chance to miss it again. It is an ultimate American film, full of salutes to racism, chauvinism, and (who else) John-by-God-Wayne, who directed, produced, and spent twelve million dollars on a full scale model of the Alamo itself, although it will still appear only a few inches tall on your tube. A large part of the film is offensive, but much of it is also exciting and fun, and it is certainly worth watching if only to see the Duke get skewered...

...Howard Cosell with the Miami Dolphins. If you really get into offensive personalities after subjecting yourself to the Duke and the Alamo, get into Howie. He is the only sportscaster in America who gives drama to a sports event by his mere presence, but he has no sense of proportion. He is entirely dependent upon his subject matter, which a good sportscaster is not, and the Dolphins' training camp can hardly be imagined to be a hotbed of interesting tidbits. A large part of the film is offensive, but much of it is exciting and fun, and it is worth watching if only to see John Wayne get skewered on a crowbar by one of Santa Ana's mean minions. It is something many...

Said Sara Monteil, a buyer for Continental Purchasing Co.: "American buyers remember the midi just like the Alamo and they aren't going to repeat old mistakes." Griped Norman Wechsler of Saks Fifth Avenue to Women's Wear Daily: "The last time we had the long lengths, even the stock market went down." Bob Sakowitz, executive vice pres ident of the Sakowitz store in Houston, agreed...

...deprogramming target, Arlene ("Patti") Thorpe, 23, a member of the Tony and Susan Alamo Christian Foundation, a commune of several hundred Jesus people in Saugus, Calif., escaped from a marathon ten-day grilling. Her mother, brother and stepfather captured her after a Sunday service at the Alamo commune and drove her 150 miles to what Patti calls "a grim, middle-class motel" in Chul'a Vista, Calif. Ted Patrick, whom she describes as a "softspoken middle-aged man who didn't look like he'd hurt anyone," first took her Bible away from her and then sent...
