Despite the prop impediments, the cast, filled with Boston professional actors, veteran Harvard actors, and several novices to the Harvard stage, has no trouble delving into its characters. Freshman Michael Albion gives a sensitive portrayal of King Leontes, using his monologues to reveal his characters' insecurity, blind rage, and pompous narcissicism. Maryann Bergonzi as Paulina and Pamela Knickrehm as Hermione, two local actresses, give superb performances. Bergonzi stands out with her exquisite enuncition and her somber, melancholy, yet determined facial expressions. Two more freshmen--Tucker McCrady as Florizel, King Polixenes' son, and Laurence Bouvard as Leontes's long-lost daughter...
Inside, the Queen reminded the 400 Americans that Britannia was essentially retracing a stretch of Sir Francis Drake's 1579 route up the Pacific Coast. He "claimed this territory as 'Nova Albion' for the first Queen Elizabeth," she said, "and 'for the Queen's successors forever.' " Smile. Pause. He resigned as Ford's Education Commissioner in 1976 for a more lucrative job as Utah commissioner of higher education, citing the imminent necessity of sending three...
...opinion, lost. His own images were overwhelmingly linear, his style based on outline and infill. The line recalls its 16th century sources in mannerist engravings (Blake never crossed the channel, and so had to depend on prints for his contact with Michelangelo). His famous Glad Day, showing Albion, the spirit of resurgent England, in mid-dance with his arms flung ecstatically wide, was based on a mediocre diagram of Vitruvian man in an old treatise on proportion; it transcends its source as Macbeth transcends Holinshed...
