...they're "strong, distinctive and sexy," in the words of one fashion marketer--and because other famous women are wearing them. The accessory has come a long way from Diane Keaton's tomboy outfit in Woody Allen's 1977 film, Annie Hall. Young pop singers from Michelle Branch to Alicia Keys have adopted an '80s new-wave look that juxtaposes ties with dark punk garb or ultra-casual white tank tops. And fashion designers like Alexander McQueen have been slipping them on models since last summer. Now if they could just learn how to tie a proper Windsor knot...

...they have their own siren. Koyanagi not only resembles Alicia Keys in appearance, but she's got similar pipes too. Koyanagi's smooth ballads and hip-hop dance track Boyz Don't Cry are worthy additions to any R. and B. collection. Most female J-Pop music is as heartfelt as sliced toast. ...Graduate and put it onstage. With Kathleen Turner re-creating Anne Bancroft's role as Mrs. Robinson, the show weathered mixed reviews to become a box-office hit in London. Now it has come to Broadway, with Turner joined by a couple of young Hollywood stars, Jason Biggs and Alicia Silverstone. The show serves up the familiar story of a directionless college grad who is seduced by his parents' friend, trots out most of the memorable lines ("Plastics!") and even gives Turner a brief, dimly lighted nude scene. And it's pretty much a disaster...

Howard and producer Brian Grazer acquired the rights to Sylvia Nasar's unauthorized biography of John Forbes Nash and his wife Alicia. But they also had to pay Nash for his "life" rights. Nash negotiated a deal containing a "can't include without consent" clause and insisted he not be depicted as a homosexual because it wouldn't be true. He made no demands about his episode of anti-Jewish delusions described in the book or his relationship with another woman, with whom he fathered a son. Howard just didn't care to focus on those aspects, which he thought...
