That all changed, however, when the bag was first introduced in Great Britain in April -Keira Knightley, Alicia Silverstone and singer Lily Allen were photographed carrying it, fashion magazines jumped on the trend, it was part of the Oscar swag, and before the bags hit the country's Sainsbury grocery shops, supposed to be its primary retailer, a fanatic fashion following had taken root. Jefferson, a graduate of the historically-black Southern University, came to Cambridge in the fall of 1969, overlapping his time at the Law School with future Rep. Thomas H. Allen (D-Maine) and Sen. Charles E. Schumer ’71 (D-N.Y.). Jefferson has retained strong ties to the University since he graduated: his three daughters—Jamila E. Jefferson ’94, Jalila Jefferson-Bullock ’97, and Jelani F.
