This week in Hartford, Conn., the first national championship since 1942 was fought out on the spic-&-span, allwood courts of the Hartford Golf Club. Defending Champion Charlie Brinton, 26, is a Philadelphian, and an ex-G.I. So is his No. 1 rival, lanky Hunter Lott, 31. (Philadelphia, where squash racquets got its start in the U.S., is still the game's top center.) Both came through the prelims easily, clashed in the finals.
