The pluck and determination which Emmons and Upton showed cannot be praised too highly. While Upton made his long run around the end he was playing almost mechanically, the hard treatment he had been given having made him nearly insensible. Trafford signaled but he did not hear. ...eleven has done the last few weeks, and compare its work in former games with that of Saturday, we must all feel an admiration for men who can work with such earnestness and determination. It is long since Harvard has played such football as she played Saturday. We can almost forget our defeat in the remembrance of that exhibition of football; we can but admire the men who can show the pluck and grit that has brought such a sudden change in the play of the eleven. ...Yale almost scores.A push-play gave Yale 5 yards, but Emmons and Mackie spoiled the next two plays, and Butterworth tried a kick, which Mackie stopped. A Yale man got the ball, however, and on the second down L. Bliss made a fine run round Emmons for 40 yards aided by the best interference of the day. Two turtle-backs gave four yards, and then L. Bliss was again sent to the right for 8 yards more. With the ball but a single yard from the line the hearts of the Harvard supporters almost stood still. The suspense was terrible...
