...Once Congress does go along with letting Obama's Treasury Secretary have access to the $350 billion still left from the money that was allocated for the TARP, a great deal of it may be going right back out to banks. The forecast now is that Citigroup (C) could lose $10 billion this quarter. A look at what is happening to consumer credit, LBOs, and the alarming increase in corporate bankruptcies means that Citi may need more than one injection of capital this year. The same holds true for Bank of America and a number of other financial firms which...
Spending Where it Counts Re Inbox Dec. 22: Sol Kerzner, along with other South African hoteliers, donated a large sum to kick-start the fund for a new hotel school at the University of Johannesburg. As of yet, all he has done is plan, promise and convince voters to choose him. He has wonderful potential but save this award...
Lloyd Creger, an administrative assistant in the Justice Department, was inching along the northbound span of the 14th Street Bridge in his Chevrolet station wagon when he heard the roar of Flight 90's engines. He thought nothing of it; hundreds of planes every day take off from National and head out over the bridge. But this time was different. Creger watched in horror as the blue-and-green jetliner suddenly appeared out of the gray mist. The plane slammed into the crowded bridge, smashed five cars and a truck and then skidded into the frozen river...
