Rumsfeld offered Wolfowitz his current post with an invitation to serve as his intellectual alter ego, a senior aide says. Their offices are a short walk apart along the Pentagon's E-Ring. Wolfowitz frequently slips down a back hallway, peers through a peephole into his boss's suite and, if Rumsfeld is alone, walks right in. "He's got great power of concentration," says Wolfowitz, "so you can open the door--it doesn't disturb him--until he pauses, and I ask, 'Can you take a minute?'" They talk half a dozen times a day, on matters small...

...members of the platoon have been tempered by the fires of the occupation, the raw emotions of war now forged into something harder and more durable. The news of Saddam's capture on this day is a jolt of euphoria for the Tomb Raiders, but it does little to alter their cool assessment of the perils ahead. "This country is still up for grabs, as far as these people are concerned," says Schermerhorn. "It's still going to be crazy around here...

...Gentlemen, Volume II (DC Comics; 224 pages), is set in England in the 1890s and features an all-star supergroup culled from the pages of late-Victorian pulp fiction. Among the characters are Captain Nemo (the mariner of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), Dr. Jekyll and his monstrous alter ego, Mr. Hyde, and the sinister protagonist of The Invisible Man (another terrible movie). Writer Alan Moore and illustrator Kevin O'Neill pit them against the invading Martians of Wells' The War of the Worlds in a battle royal for the fate of jolly old England...

...most famous work, “Fauna Secreta,” Fontcuberta created stunningly realistic documentation of a surreal host of Darwin-defying plants and animals, all dutifully photographed, scientifically named and explained by the fictitious German biologist Dr. Peter Ameisenhaufen, one of Fontcuberta’s alter egos. While “Fauna Secreta” has since toured many well-known art museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, it was first exhibited at the National Museum of Natural History in Madrid as a genuine scientific catalog. With no posted indication that this exhibit...
