Saturday's baseball victory coming when the chances against Yale on the 23d are being seriously considered is on the whole decidedly reassuring. Although practically ineffective at the bat, the nine showed themselves capable of snappy and aggressive play in the field against a strong opponent, and Hayes's good form was in a high degree encouraging. Harvard men who saw the game at Philadelphia two weeks ago, felt quite confident that their nine would prove victorious when the U. of P. team came to Cambridge. Since then, however, although the physical condition of the pitchers is much improved, Rand's unfortunate accident has caused a general mix-up in the Harvard nine, and victory seems by no means assured.
