Today's football game with Annapolis presents the first real opportunity of the year to gain a critical estimate of just what can be expected from this year's team. The games thus far, although one or two have been fairly close and only won by small scores, are of meagre value in estimating the real power of attack and defense. No amount of scrimmaging against a weak line will bring out a team's possibilities. From all accounts the Navy is a strong opponent for this stage of the season, with an aggressive line and quite a variety...
...hardest games this year, Yale beat West Point on Saturday by the score of 6 to 0. In the first half the play was so close that neither team was able to score, although West Point had two opportunities for field goals by heeling punts for fair catches. In the second half, however, Yale's reserve force told and Coy was pushed across the line for the only touchdown, the goal from which he kicked. Yale played "straight football" throughout, and what use they intend to make of the forward pass and onside kick in later games was not apparent...

The University Freshmen defeated Groton 6 to 0, the first time in years, so that the chances seem to be against the Academy team. Last year the score was 0 to 0, although Exeter scored by a trick play on receiving a kick-off. The touchdown was afterwards declared illegal on account of offside play...

Springfield was defeated by Princeton on October 3 by the score of 17 to 0, and, although their line was weak, got off-some excellent passes, not failing once to secure the ball...
Browne, who has not played in the last two games on account of injuries, will play at left end today. Forchheimer, who has shown up well during the last week's practice, will play at fullback. Although he is new to the position, he starts fairly fast, and hits the line hard. The practice this week has been devoted to working up good defense, and the improvement should be apparent in today's game...
