...response is required to counter Mark Whitaker's confused and amateurish film review of Heart Throbs '77 (March 28) at Off the Wall. A thorough refutation would fill pages, but choosing a few of the most blatant will suffice. Whitaker totally misses the point of Gunvor Nelson's Take Off, dismissing it as "a long strip-tease...with a twist...sexist, definitely." ...idea: a short called "Ass," by Tom DeMore, is built on the idea of a stag movie for donkeys, replete with all but completely graphic bestiality. Bill Scheft's malicious attack on the Harvard Band in the Crimson of January 11 was an example of sloppy and amateurish journalism. As was the case last year, the Harvard hockey team is suffering from a mediocre season, at least in contrast to previous years of championship-caliber teams; and as was the case last year, The Crimson has begun to do what the National Enquirer would do; look for scapegoats. Again the Harvard Band has been found as the number one culprit...

...Vietnam days, there has been an unwillingness to listen to outside opinions; a pattern of decisionmaking by a small group; an intolerance of dissenting views, both within and outside the government; and an inability to reevaluate policy as circumstances changed. Although the swine flu fiasco at times seemed laughable, amateurish, the reasons for its failure are serious, and bode ill for future endeavors...
