Second year students of Hardes and Langdell clubs will compete in the second quarterfinals of the Law School's annual Ames competition tonight in Langdell Hall at 8 p.m.
The final of the Law School's Ames competition will be argued on the Goldman v. Fogarty child adoption case, decided last year in the Massachusetts State Supreme Court, Monroe H. Freedman, faculty adviser to the competition, announced yesterday.
"Finance is tremendously important, because it is at the center of all affairs, whether domestic or foreign. Most companies find it necessary to be financed by stocks and bonds," stated Amyas Ames '28, partner in the investment company of Kidder and Peabody of New York.
"The hallmark of democracy is a free market," Ames declared. "The many and differing opinions and judgments of people give the investor a wide choice in making his investments," he said.
Finals of the competition will be held in the early part of April in the new Austen Hall Courtroom. The Baker-Smith and Jaffe Clubs will compete for the $800 Ames award.
