Emma is still another tribute, but this time with political content: it's based on the life of American anarchist Emma Goldman. Written by another anarchist type, B.U. professor and wildman Howard Zinn. Performed by the Next Move, an anarchistic theater group (and a very good one). At the Next Move Theater, 955 Boylston St. in Boston. Curtain at 8 p.m., tickets...
...capital late on Sunday afternoon and continued sporadically for twelve hours. Automatic weapons chattered incessantly, and the crump of exploding grenades punctuated the firing. Cars were banned from the streets, and roadblocks set up to restrict movement by foot. Next day the government-controlled papers announced that 'one anarchist' had been killed-although hundreds of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition had been confiscated. Baader had won permission from prison authorities to study at the library. Suddenly three people burst into the library and sprayed the room with bullets and tear gas. The escape plan worked...

Her characters bleed and fall, or carry on with Roman stoicism, the buffeting of their lives "a natural consequence of being born." The only sustained political argument in the book is given to a drug-addicted anarchist who argues, tautologically, that people would be better if people were better...
Mother Kusters is anxious for change, though, and finds the slowness of the Communist plan disillusioning. She is persuaded by an anarchist to take more direct action and stages a sit-in at the magazine office which misrepresented her husband. Her two fellow anarchists are anxious for dinner, however, and leave Mother K. sitting alone on the floor. Finally, the night watchman asks her to leave so he can lock-up. He invites her home for a dinner of "Heaven and Earth" (German sausages and apple dumplings) and she leaves with him. He has told her exactly what she wanted...
