...million a picture and all the Givenchy clothes she could wear, Audrey Hepburn seemed immovably fixed as Hollywood's romantic princess. Then in 1969, she quietly married Dr. Andrea Dotti, a handsome Italian psychiatrist nine years her junior. She moved to Rome and dropped out of the movies. The scripts continued to arrive-and be rejected-until, attracted by the challenge of playing the part of a woman who, like herself, is 46, she agreed to star in Robin and Marian. Last summer she arrived on location in Spain with a retinue consisting of her personal hairdresser, makeup woman...
Matt's story sounds much like that of Larry Dewey '73, a first-year Medical School student who graduated from the college last year and is now a resident proctor in Greenough and lives with his wife Teresa and one-year-old daughter Andrea. Dewey arrived at Harvard in fall 1969 from a rural area ten miles outside Boise, Id. ("Out in the sticks," he admits with a chuckle.) "I got here and just hated the place. At home I could go pheasant and rabbit and deer hunting of fish and catch 20-inch trout. But here there...
...homebody." Teresa, who works part-time at Harvard's Center for Population Studies, also resents "this myth of the Mormon woman that I see propounded around here, that of a domestic wife subservient to her husband." Larry, she adds, is very supportive and often takes care of their daughter Andrea, although it is hard on his studies. After long thought to make sure she is not acting in response to peer pressure, Teresa has applied to a graduate program in education in the area. But she and Larry plan to have more children and eventually move out West...
...success of the play depended on them; unless we are made to feel that they are men of higher moral value than Shylock the play is a heap of incoherence. I would also single out the Prince of Morocco (Curt Anderson), Salerio (John Sedgwick), Nerissa (Meg Vaillancourt), and Jessica (Andrea LaSonde) for their well-executed performances. Launcelot Gobbo (Kevin Grumbach) did some unexpectedly successful things with some of Shakespeare's least inspired clown material, and his father (Peter Frisch) served him as an effective foil. Lorenzo (Danny Snow) managed to project a kind of cortesia Castiglione would have recognized...
...imaginative use of props stretch the humor--this particular facet of Weller's play becomes the mainstay of the Dunster production. David Alpert gives a skillful and sophisticated performance as the roguish Mike who masterminds the comic scenes. His sidekick, played by Andy Berger, is a lackluster second fiddle. Andrea Gordon as Ruth and Nikki Mintz as Kathy speak their lines self-consciously, sounding unnatural saying "fuck" and "shit"; it's as though the Jackson twins have bedded down with the entire high school football team...
