DIED. Jerzy Andrzejewski, 73, one of Poland's finest novelists and a leading political dissident; of a heart attack; in Warsaw. The best known of his novels was Ashes and Diamonds (1948), a study of confusion and despair at World War IIs end. Andrzejewski was an insistent protester against censorship; in 1976 he helped found the Workers' Defense Committee (KOR), which was integrated into the now outlawed Solidarity union...
