Webb noted that the $299.5 billion defense budget had been cut by $33 billion "without clear strategic thought." But he was angriest that Carlucci had brushed aside the Navy's efforts to take cuts in maintenance and ^ operations rather than ships. Carlucci is determined to maintain the quality of defense forces, even by reducing the number of ships. He accepted the resignation "with regret," then rapidly arranged for Webb to be replaced by William Ball III, 39, an ex-Navy officer and former senior Senate staffer...

Though Cosby's comedy was color-blind, the comedian was not. In 1964, when Producer Sheldon Leonard invited him to audition for a role in a new TV series called I Spy, Cosby struck Co-Star Robert Culp as the "angriest young man I'd ever met." Cosby does not dispute the characterization. "You have to remember the times. It wasn't so much because of any racism directed against me. It was because of the March on Washington and how the press tried to ignore it, and the Red-baiting going on. I felt that my country had betrayed...

...excelsis. The breadth of Springsteen's spirit and the range of his gifts can handily be measured in the distance between Paradise and Seeds, a workingman's testament of pride, helplessness and hopelessness from the 1985 tour that is one of his best tunes, and certainly one of his angriest. With all this, there is one more thing. But good to know, anyway...

Tying run on third. Two out. On the end of the bench is a petrified, skinny second baseman who now had to face not only the strongest kid in the neighborhood--and maybe in the state--but the angriest kid in the neighborhood. I recall the coach saying just one thing, "Sussman, don't strike out looking!" I responded with a scratchy "Thanks, coach...

...Fidel Castro's angriest performance since 1970, when Cuba's sugar harvest fell disastrously short of its goal. Addressing 1,800 delegates to the Cuban Communist Party's third congress, including representatives from 100 socialist countries, he vigorously and theatrically attacked rampant waste, mismanagement and indiscipline in Cuba's faltering economic system, still heavily dependent on Soviet subsidies. After two hours of a 5-hr. 40-min. marathon, Castro, 59, called an unusual half-hour recess. Precisely 30 minutes later, the Cuban dictator, who often wears two watches to be sure he is on time, strode onto the podium...
