...rural U.S. Her only exposure to the countryside to date has been on her father's 8,000-acre estancia 250 miles from Buenos Aires, where she rides a caballo criollo-an Argentinian equivalent of the American cow pony-among a herd of 2,000 Aberdeen Angus. She will probably be assigned to Appalachia...

They threw $50,000 parties for 1,000 guests, lived in a $250,000 house near Dallas, had three ranches with Black Angus cattle, drove His and Her Cadillacs, and proudly showed visitors a photo signed: "As ever, Lyndon B. Johnson." The tab for all this, starting in 1962, came to more than $3,000,000. But why not? Pritchett, or by those writers, like Coljn Maclnnes, John Wain or Kingsley Amis, who have given voice to the enhanced position of the British working...

...House. In order to head off Louttit's formal presentation of the heresy charge, Presiding Bishop John T. Hines had named an ad hoc committee to prepare a general statement that would reflect the consensus of the house. The committee was headed by the Rt. Rev. Angus Dun, 74, the retired Bishop of Washington who, in 1946, ordained Pike to the priesthood. Dun's committee proposed rebuking Pike instead of trying him. The debate on its recommendation became in effect a trial by rhetoric-not so much of Pike as of the church itself...
