Surprisingly enough for a House production, it is the technical side of the show which does most to sustain the humor. Suzy Colgate's makeup is animalian without being grotesque. Toad's mouth and eyes are precisely that (though some credit must be given to the natural bent of Sansone's mouth); evil animals properly wear black masks. Electa Kane's costume are rich, correct (though her triumph--a weasel disguised as a notebook-paper-eared hare--is rightfully neither) and show off brightly under Steve Nightingale's clean, clear lighting which even does wonders for the slightly unsettling coloration...
Shorn Lambs. Founded 56 years ago, The Lambs Club (membership: 1,650.) traces a shadowy genealogy back to the congenial London circle which surrounded Authors Charles & Mary Lamb. Its present connotation is animalian, however, for among its titular governors are a Shepherd (President), a Boy (Vice President), Collies (Masters of the private Gambols). Most members are professionals, but there is a sprinkling recruited from the Army, the Navy, the Good Fellows. Acting Shepherd is Playwright Edwin Milton Royle (The Squaw Man, Launcelot and Elaine). Monkeys. When an orchestra, attempting to tabulate animalian reactions to music, played in the monkey gallery at the Philadelphia Zoo last week, the little brown persons were bewildered and enchanted. As the instruments were tuned, the merry apes danced in their cages and cocked their ears. When the drummer tapped his drum, mandrill and marmoset cowered and wept with an uncontrollable fear. As the violins swept up in the frail music of a waltz, they all sat still as statues. Saxophone and trumpet made them run and jump. Then, when the musicians stopped, the monkeys shrilled, squealed, jabbered...
