Sirs: I beg leave to call your attention to a statement in the July 8 issue of TIME, page 13, column 2 near the bottom of the page: "Japan once planned to annex Hawaii by intensive colonization." I challenge anyone to produce a bit of documentary evidence to prove this statement-or any evidence that would be accepted by the courts of any civilized nation This statement savors of international slander; it is bad etiquette and miserable ethics.
