This is a sound argument, as far as it goes. After all, the powerful forces of an increasingly freewheeling world economy have been depressing middle-class wages and producing what Dionne calls the Anxious Middle--voters who are disenchanted with government but fearful of the creative destruction that is producing big winners and a lot of losers in the national economy.
