...America Online AOL.com Portal For years aol.com essentially functioned as a log-in page for AOL subscribers who wished to check their email when they were away from their home PCs. Not anymore. In an effort to better compete against rivals Google, Yahoo and MSN, AOL is busy reinventing its public page as a portal, unlocking the gates to most of its members-only Web properties and making the content accessible to everybody.
