Beautifully, informally written, Bliss Perry's biography is altogether alive from start to finish. It is perhaps the most compelling document of self-revelation penned by an American gentleman of letters. Its appeal to university men of the present and past is particularly great, and to the whole world it opens broad new vistas of life...

...dancing was monopolized by Director Busby Berkely and his imitators. The height of their inventions was reached in Footlight Parade, which showed a chorus massed to represent the U. S. flag. When Dancer Fred Astaire first appeared in Hollywood, he was deemed too lacking in acting ability and sex appeal to do more than a momentary turn in Dancing Lady, for which Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer borrowed him from RKO. As the brothers-in-law got busy, their cruiser anchoring in the safe middle of the river off Kuling, they were joined by the Chinese Ambassador to Japan. General Chiang Tso-pin, and the former Chinese satrap of what is now Manchukuo...

...With this argument the Circuit Court did not agree. Ruling that no violation of the Fifth Amendment was involved, it declared, in effect, that a solvent corporation may apply for permission to reorganize under Section 77b. Last week Shanferoke Coal had 14 days left in which to file an appeal with the U. S. Supreme Court. If upheld, the decision may send solvent corporations streaking to court to share with insolvent corporations the power, under Section 770, to make reorganizations binding on stubborn minorities...
