Although I applaud Dean Epps for his proposal to decrease tension between police and students, I don't think he is considering the real problem. It's not that the police officers do not know proper procedure for making an arrest; after all, it's their profession. They are obviously motivated by something other than lack of knowledge about procedure. A racist in a police uniform is no different from a racist in overalls or one in a suit. Why should they suppress their desire to antagonize Black students when they can simply deny it, the University defends them...
...feared that in allowing the anniversary of last year's Junior Parents Weekend protest go by in silence and passivity, we would in effect be signaling to the administration that we were indeed appeased--the position and editorial seems to suggest we take--and we are not. I found it strange, however, that Crimson reports spent only a few hours investigating the article, and, therefore, gave the people who run the mail center very little time to respond...
...applaud the vigorous efforts of our Afro-American Studies department in recruitment of senior faculty; yet, I'd like to draw the distinction between progress due to amazing individuals within the Afro-Am department and progress due to a coherent administration policy or effort. Admirable success in a single department does not prove that the system and process of senior faculty hiring--as well as that for administrative positions--is open and equitable...
...Crimson applaud these students for taking an active role in dealing with a crisis of enormous proportions. We urge every Harvard undergraduate to participate in this noble effort to help save human lives in Bosnia...
